Walnuts and Water

By Luis Betancur

Thu 17 Dec 2009, 11:02:00 2009 EST Afghanistan

Dear all this is great site to express our concern of HBP. I am serving the US in AFG within the civil aid. My BP was high 160/100 during 2008 then I started to drink : 1 Lt of water just at the first act in my morning . Them I climb to 3 Lt every single morning !! and my BP came to normal after 4 months. Not -medicines at all. I am eating Afghani walnuts and my BP now is bellow 100/70 !! I am 60 years old with an excellent health. Other practice is to see the sun before 9 am directly with your two eyes no more than 3 minutes ...you will see the results in one month see sun gazing references !! Any other enquire I am happy to render. All the best and congratulations for your space to share.

Luis that news is fantastic. Thanks for sharing your comments with us and so enthusiastic about it too! Sometimes all our body needs is more water. People forget to drink water but drink every other sort of beverage. I am glad in your case that you found that out.

The walnuts are an added bonus like Doris from the US discovered too. Keep up the good work.

I don`t know about the "sun gazing" though. I have read about that. Gazing directly into the sun can hurt the retina. Be careful please and don`t follow therapies before fully checking out to see if there is any truth in them and that they are safe.

The Power of a Good Diet

By Heidi Lein

Tues 08 Dec 2009, 05:12:58 AM Leiden, NL,

Hi Gem,

I am a 52 year old, who stays fit and tries to eat well. When I first found out about the high BP (last year) I of course scrounged the internet, and found your site to be the most informative. It was full of information that centered on diet and hope versus "many patients need meds, etc.". I still focus on the fact that you said that a little elevation at my age is normal. In fact, I went to a cardiologist at a university hospital here in Leiden, NL, who said that all the tests were so normal that it was abnormal I was in the clinic. He was nice about it.

I started on Ramopril within 6 weeks of finding out about the hypertension. My mom and grandmother had died of coronary problems so I wanted to be cautious. My BP then was (on average) 170/110. I waited at an emergency room in Canada to get that prescription, during a Christmas trip home. That doctor wanted me to start on 10 mg.. I went home (as the nurse) and started on 2.5 mg.. Then I tried to eat what your site had recommended. Within 7 days, I had to REDUCE the meds to 1.25 mg. as my BP was down to 125/80. I started walking through the snow for an hour too.

By the time holidays were over, my BP was still normal, and I reduce it to 0.66 mg. Amazing. I had cold finger tips too from a low BP! I tried to quit the meds, but it started hiking back up. For the last year, I have stayed on 1.25 mg. daily, since I started becoming a little cavalier with my diet again. Now my BP is about 135/85.

The diet I found most useful was to eat tons of steamed vegetables daily, including onions and garlic, with breakfast consisting of fruits, and lunch being a huge bowl of oatmeal (with seeds, maple syrup, yogourt). Nobody envied me but they sure admired my resolve to bring the BP down naturally. : ) This very healthy diet was what I tried initially.

Now, as I said, I am more relaxed, but when I receive your newsletter, I feel prompted once again to be involved and win over the need for meds. Thanks so much Gem, to you and your husband, for the work you do.

Please feel free to put anything I've written on your website. Merry Christmas!

Hello Heidi!

I have already wrote a private word to you thanking you for your encouraging comments, and also to congratulate you on your success. I am delighted to put your words here to give others hope and confidence that they can do much to help lower their blood pressure. Diet is powerful and natural so it should be the first on the agenda in reducing blood pressure before even drugs are considered.

Pain in the Jaw

From Terea (Montreal)

Fri Apr 24 10:28:31 2009 EDT

I have been taking Altace 10Mg since November 2008. I have also been going to an Accupuncturist and an Homeopath.

Since January 2009 my stomach has been hurting, it is swollen and I have buy special yogurt drinks at the health food store. Now all my teeth are hurting on the left side of my face, my lower jaw and my upper jaw. Cavities are someithing I never get.

I am taking Omega 3 tablets every day and 4 differnt types of homeopathic remedies with Altace.

I can't wait to get off these medications (Altace). Need I say more.

Terea

Gem`s Answer!

Hi Terea

I have not heard anyone complain of sore teeth and jaws but people have complained about face and tongue swelling called angioedema, when taking this drug.

Tell your doctor that you are having this pain but also tell him you are having alternative treatment. Sometimes medicine and herbs interact and should be taken with caution. Your Doctor, Acupuncturist, and Homeopath should all be aware that you are receiving other treatment.

From the ER to the Herbalist for treatment

I suffer from High Blood Pressure with a BP reading of 160/100, and I am on two types of medication. One in Clonodine the other is Metoprolol. The only times I have close to normal pressure is direct treatment at an ER as I am admitted under emergency, or using an herbal tea that is primarily hawthorn berry. I do not believe regular medical means will be an effective treatment. The medical community is important for proper monitoring of the condition. While doing basic exercise and taking my tea (when it was available) my BP got down to 140/85, still high but not a border line ER visit.

Pills! Pills! Pills!

Someone who forgot to leave a name posted this comment today

Wed Oct 22 2008

The first pill made me run to the bathroom. The second pill made me cough and I couldn't get to the bathroom fast enough. The third bill made me so depressed that I couldn't even function. Finally, the fourth pill brought the blood pressure down but now with all the weight I gained my clothes don't fit. There's got to be a better way!

I am sorry but not surprised about this visitor`s experience. As I continue to stress on this site, western medicine focuses on treating symptoms but overlooks the causes. The pills you receive for high blood pressure are not the solution, they are to control but often than not, they have bad side effects and you need to continue to take them.

Music! A Remedy for High Blood Pressure

From Willard (United States)

Tues Oct 14 17:12 2008

This is not a question, but a remedy. I find light music and other forms of relaxation help my blood pressure considerably. For example; one Saturday this summer I took a leisurely pontoon boat ride, later had a sensible meal, then listened to music for a couple of hours. My blood pressure was the lowest it has been in some time 116/72. A section on relaxation may add to you very informative and thoughtful site.

ps. I too fell bad after taking my pharmaceuticals, so I am going to try more natural sources.

Thanks

Jogging can Lower Blood pressure

From Louis (United States) Fri Jun 20 19:12:04 2008

My blood pressure in the AM sometimes will be 140/75 but then I go jogging and do exercise and latter I have pressure of 105/70. and at night it is also low. Why is it high in the AM and ok at night.

Louis

>>>

Gem`s Answer!

Hi Louis!

That is great news if your blood pressure is dropping to 105/70 during the day after exercise and through into the evening.

It`s a known fact that exercise helps in the production of nitric oxide in the lining (endothelium) of artery walls which helps the smooth muscle around the artery to relax. Something might be amiss during your sleep hours, why it rises to 140/75. But these measurements are not normally classed as serious. Check with your doctor for advice if you are worried and ask a family member if you snore loudly, or stop breathing for short spells. You could be suffering from sleep apnea.

Walnuts Worked!

From Doris (USA)

Friday May 29 01:13:14 2008

This may be the wrong place to send my thanks, but I do thank you for answering my question. I have been hitting the walnuts very hard and then yesterday, I went to the doctor: my blood pressure had gone down to almost normal.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Doris

Gem`s Answer!

Thank you Doris!

It is good to know that the walnuts helped you. You have heard the saying, "Another man`s food is another man`s poison". It is important to keep looking to find out which foods and supplements will work for you. This is encouraging hypertension news for others who want to use nutrition to reduce blood pressure.

Busy Career

by Claudia (Montreal, Canada)

Sun Dec 16 21:20:44 2007 EST

I find that to eat a low sodium diet, I have to cook my own meals & eat at home. I have a very demanding career that involves dining with clients, etc. How do I manage to stay low sodium without resorting to just salad with dressing on the side

Claudia

Gem`s Answer!

Hi Claudia!

That`s a good point to bring up. How do busy people keep to their diet when their schedule includes business lunches or dinners?

I was wondering if you can order Chefs Diet in Canada?

Also this is another healthy meals delivery service...

www.dinewise.com

I found a nice little tip on the net today. Try getting the waiter to make a note at the bottom, or even better, at the top of your order, asking the chef to reduce or cut out the salt from your meal.

HBP Meds Side Effects Worse than HBP!

By Julie Ann (Dallas, Texas)

Fri Dec 14 23:01:08 2007 EST

Hell NO I wont take it any more! The side effects of HBP medications are much worse than the HBP alone! The human body is a marvellous machine..simply give it the tools it needs to operate properly, and it will always strive toward heath. To hell with these doctors...their response is always the same.... either write a Rx script or surgery. Its all they know...Does anyone know of a good person to see in Dallas Texas?

>>>

Gem`s Answer!

Hello Ann!

Thanks for your comments on this topic!

We all sympathize with how you feel. Enough patients feel that their doctors are not interested in them, but only to push drugs that do more harm than good.

You must agree with me though that not all doctors come into this category.

When we are really sick the first person we look to for help and comfort is our mother, the second is our doctor. Many doctors are dedicated to their work and really care. But there are a lot who are not and by the sounds of it, you seem to be one of their victims.

I agree with you 100% that the body is a great healer. Give it what it needs and most of the time it will recover.
