The OMNI Diet
by Anonymous Visitor
Not sure if you are aware of this diet but it is based on the DASH diet and appears to be a little better in helping control bp. A trial was done with the original DASH diet, a modified DASH with more unsaturated fat, and a modified DASH with more protein (all three had the same amount of calories). Both the fat and protein versions were better for both heart health and blood pressure; however, the unsaturated fat version was more favourable for HDL (something that I struggle to keep at a high enough level).
There is a small report on it showing some menu examples at omniheart.org. The page is not as detailed as the DASH diet URL and only shows the 2100 calorie version, although it looks easy to modify the 1500 calorie DASH to either fat or protein versions.
It's important to note that the protein version is not like Atkins diet; at least half of the protein should be plant based.
Hope this is of some help. I'm trying to follow this and it appears to be helping. (FYI - when I say "diet" above it's really a lifestyle change - not a temp diet).
