The New Triple Combo Sevikar HCT – Is It For You?
We now have Sevikar HCT, a triple combo high blood pressure medication on the European Market. It was launched in the UK with approval on the 22/11/11 after a 12 week trial period, but Germany was actually the first to launch it. That took place in Munich on the 20/12/2010 when Daiichi Sankyo Europe announced the approval of the drug.
Sevikar HCT which contains Olmesartan Medoxomil an angiotensin II receptor blocker, Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, and Hydrochlorothiazide (HCT), a diuretic, is believed to be a better option for some older patients who tend to forget which pills they have taken if they have several prescriptions. Doctors are more inclined to use this drug for those types of patients who either overdose or miss doses to the detriment of their cardiovascular health.
There is a directive pdf document that patients can download from www.medicines.org.uk to give you information you need on this new combo drug. I suggest you read it now before you are given a prescription from your doctor and take note of the health conditions where you should not take it. I will list just some that would except you from the drug if you have those conditions.
Forget it if you have
- Low sodium
- Low potassium
- High calcium
- High uric acid which proved unresponsive when treated
- Gall stones
Forget it if you have
- aortic stenosis. That`s when blood vessels are narrow leading from the heart.
- Heart failure
There are a few more “forget its” that are listed on the directive, and also a list where you need to be careful about if you choose to take this drug. Sounds rather risky to me but it`s your choice and now an informed one at that.
